Sugar cookies — generic, perhaps, but easy to make with ordinary kitchen ingredients, versatile, and a wonderful canvas for your decorating skills!
(though to be clear, not my decorating skills; I have zero artistic ability, as the photo makes evident. Your kids, however, will love this)
There are plenty of recipes online for cookie icing (basically just powdered sugar and egg white), or you can buy it in tubes at any grocery store. The advantage of making your own is that you can create whatever colors you like, instead of limiting yourself to the colors available at the store.
And then there are the sprinkles… so many sprinkles… also googly eyes. Unleash you inner child.
