One Dish a Week, Week 61: Fortune cookies

Fortune cookies are not authentic Chinese cuisine, but they are a lot of fun. They are even more fun when you get to write the fortunes.

This is a recipe that requires working fast. The cookies bake flat and then harden as they cool, so as soon as you pull them out of the oven, you will fold them up right away with a fortune inside. Because of that, we only bake 3-4 at a time. Fortunately, they bake quickly — only about 7-8 minutes.

There are a couple of techniques involved in this (particularly spreading out the batter, and folding a cookie) that are hard to describe in words, but are easier once you see them on video.

Recipe here.

Enjoy,

Kevin

  1. This is very cool — i’ve never thought to make my own Fortune Cookies, perhaps because I’ve never come across a recipe for them. Thanks – the tips will be helpful
